In the interest of creating a more standardized, fair, and meaningful naturalization process, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently completed a multi-year redesign of the naturalization test. The revised test, with an emphasis on the fundamental concepts of American democracy and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, will help encourage citizenship applicants to learn and identify with the basic values we all share as Americans.

USCIS Final Rule on Travel for H & L Nonimmigrants PDF Print E-mail Send to a Friend
Final rule removing the requirement that certain H and L nonimmigrants returning from travel abroad present an I-485 receipt notice at a port of entry to avoid having the adjustment application deemed abandoned. The rule is effective and will be published in the Federal Register on 11/1/07.

A federal judge blocked the proposed “no-match rule”

The Department of Homeland Security planned to start a new immigration enforcement scheme in September. Their goal was to make employers investigate their workers’ immigration status – and then fire them if they could not prove they had legal status. However, a federal judge has blocked this rule from going into effect. In his order, he noted that it could potentially harm millions of documented workers, as well as those without legal papers.

Employment Based Visas - EB5 PDF Print E-mail Send to a Friend

In 1991, Congress created the EB-5 visa program to benefit the U.S. economy and create new jobs by encouraging foreign nationals to invest in the U.S.  To qualify for an EB-5 visa, the individual must establish that (1) the individual is coming to the U.S. to invest in a new commercial enterprise, (2) the investment occurred after November 29, 1990 (the date the EB-5 program became effective), and (3) that this ongoing enterprise will benefit the U.S. economy.
